05.07.2014, UP Youth Choir Flashmob, Museums Quartier Vienna

At short notice of their passing through Vienna, the University Of Pretoria Youth Choir surprised many with their sudden appearance at the Museums Quarter, this past weekend. These young enthusiastic minds have reached heights that many dream of with their voices.

About the University of Pretoria Youth Chior's visit in Vienna

The University of Pretoria’s Youth Choir will represent Gauteng Province at Austria's largest international youth music festival for choirs, orchestras and symphonic bands, the Summa Cum Laude in Vienna, Austria, from 4 to 9 July 2014. Following their participation in this prestigious event, the choir will leave for Riga, Latvia to represent South Africa in three categories in die World Choir Games (formerly known as the Choir Olympics) from 9 to 14 July.

The Summa Cum Laude festival in Vienna will be held in the most beautiful concert venues in Vienna and its surrounding regions under the patronage of the Austrian Federal President and the Austrian Commission for UNESCO. The festival also famously takes place under the artistic patronage of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, an Austrian conductor who is particularly well known for his historically informed performances of music from the Classical era and earlier.

The 8th World Choir Games – the world’s largest choir competition – will bring the international flair of the Choir Olympic idea to Riga, one of the most traditional singer regions in the world. The aim of the World Choir Games is to promote understanding and peace between nations through song and to unite people from all over the world in a friendly competition. The World Choir Games take place every second year and is hosted on a different continent each time. This year Riga will welcome singers from five continents, 73 countries and 460 choirs. The total number of participants is 27 000. The best concert halls and parks in Riga will host competitions in 29 categories, as well as master classes, concerts and a parade.
